FAMILY ANTHOMYZIDAE | Jan Willem A. van Zuijlen, Jindřich Roháček and Paul L.Th. Beuk |
Version date: 24-09-2015 17:46
|
Diagnosis. Small (1.3-4.5 mm), very slender flies, yellow to black, sometimes with dark stripes or spots, shiny to distinctly microtomentose. Wings usually long and narrow, sometimes abbreviated and with reduced venation; C with subcostal break; wing membrane usually hyaline, but in some species with dark markings. Legs relatively short and slender, tibiae without dorsal preapical setae.
Biology. Adults are associated with damp habitats, both open and wooded ones. The larvae are probably predominantly phytosaprophagous. Some are known to develop in dead plants or as inquilines in galls. More rarely larvae have been recorded as miners of dicotyledones, and only one species, Fungomyza albimana (Meigen), has been reared from fungi.

Notes |
Note 1 |
Published for the Dutch fauna by reference of Andersson (1976: 49) to A. gracilis Fallén sensu de Meijere. Re-examination of published Dutch material revealed that all specimens recorded as A. gracilis are conspecific with A. collini. |
Note 2 |
Re-examination of published Dutch material revealed that all specimens recorded as sordidella are conspecific with A. gracilis. |
Note 3 |
Re-examination of published Dutch material revealed that all specimens recorded as pallida are conspecific with A. neglecta. This correction was overlooked by Roháček (2006, 2009), who apparently based his record on De Meijere (1939b). |
